The number of traffic accident deaths in Ho Chi Minh City is the highest in Viet Nam. In the period 2009-2013 there were 5,058 traffic accidents with 4,349 deaths and 2,202 injuries. In Ho Chi Minh City, there are about 8% of child-related accidents (Source: PC 67 – Ministry of Public Security). Based on the Road Traffic Safety Foundation (2012), the rate of under-eight helmets is 28% and children aged 8-14 only 30%. On a daily basis, we can see instances of reckless parents with their children not wearing a helmet when sitting in the back, and this can cause children to become victims of traffic accidents.
